The Guido Berlucchi Foundation Career Grant aims to support oncologic research by awarding outstanding young Principal Investigators (PI) wishing to establish their independent laboratory in a public or private non-profit  Italian research institution. The Guido Berlucchi Foundation, the young PI and the Host institution undertake to jointly invest to ensure that PI may have a chance of continuing the research undertaken with the grant.
A maximum of two grants will be awarded in the 2016 call.

The overall funding for a PI is of 320,000 Euro over five years according to the following funding scheme:

*PI salary = the employer gross salary to be paid for a PI, inclusive of all insurance, taxes and benefits.

Each Career Grant holder will be awarded with an annual contract, renewable up to a maximum of five years total, plus the engagement of the hosting institution for a three year contract, for a total of a eight year-long program. The renewal is subordinated to the annual evaluation made by the Guido Berlucchi Foundation’s Technical Scientific Committee and the Hosting Institution’s Scientific Director. The PI's salary cannot be cumulated with other funds than the " Guido Berlucchi Foundation’s Carrer Grant".

To Apply as Hosting Institution
Any public or private non-profit Italian research institutions is eligible to host a PI, holder of a Career Grant.
The Hosting Institution will share with the Guido Berlucchi Foundation a written commitment to favour the establishment and stabilization of the PI. The hosting arrangements and financial support to the PI will be considered as relevant criteria during the Application evaluation.
The Candidates will be strongly encouraged to contact the Hosting Institutions in which they would like to establish their laboratory before making a final selection.

To Apply as Principal Investigator
The Guido Berlucchi Foundation Career Grant is open to researchers:

  • of any citizenship;
  • below age forty;
  • holding a PhD degree (such as indicated in: ERC_policy_on_PhD_and_equivalent_doctoral_degrees_2016.pdf);
  • with at least ten original papers as first, last or corresponding author, in peer-reviewed international scientific journals;
  • which have two years post-doctoral training in another Country than the one where the PhD was delivered;
  • which have neither performed their studies or research activities in the Hosting institution in the previous two years from the candidature date.

The call for the Guido Berlucchi Foundation Career Grant will be published presumably in October 2016.
